Shamdooni

Holding two separate meanings, Shamdooni is an ancient Persian flower and also the word for “candleholder”. As an important part of a Haft-Sin spread, candles are lit to represent enlightenment and warmth in the household. More often than not, there is a candle dedicated to each individual in the household.

To ring in the season of light, I created a satin dress with a breathy feel for the first day of Spring. The digitally printed painting on the dress includes additional elements found on a Haft-Sin table, including goldfish and candles, meaning new life and enlightenment. Adorned with a cascading digitally embroidered poppy shawl that shimmers in the sun, this ensemble in the collection is an expression of light, life, and celebration.
