nowruz
I knew going into my final semester at the Rhode Island School of Design that I wanted my thesis to reflect me, my family, and our culture. Born into a family of Iranian immigrants, I was surrounded by breathtaking Persian art and textiles ever since I could remember. I have always full heartedly embraced my roots and let it influence my work, and it only seemed right to do the same for my final project. One of the most beloved times of the year for Iranians around the world is Spring. Nowruz, meaning New Day, marks the advent of Spring, also known as the Persian New Year. A joyous time that is full of light, color, tradition, and celebration, Nowruz dates back thousands of years and is inherently, and unequivocally, Persian. Therefore, it only seemed right that in my closing Spring semester, I use the blooming of flowers, the emerging greenery, and that unmistakable feeling of change and hope in the air to inspire my degree project.
